Microsoft’s ‘Journey through life…’

Posted Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 by Jimmy Kyle

Monday 26th February saw the launch of a video-driven ‘Digital lifestyle’ site (www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/digitallife). Built entirely in Microsoft’s Expression Studio and outputted solely for Microsoft’s recently released Silverlight application, the site brings to life Microsoft’s vision of a digitally-integrated future.

Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in, delivering the next generation of .NET based media experiences, and rich interactive applications for the web. Able to stream high-quality full-screen video, integrated digital marketing agency Mason Zimbler has taken full advantage of the software’s potential for the site – also incorporating into the build an innovative and exciting video interface.

From the homepage, users are given the opportunity to choose from five tech-savvy (yet everyday) characters, with four interwoven stories. Once the user has opted into a story, they are taken on a journey where they’re presented with viewable online demonstrations of the latest technologies and software – jumping between stories as the characters’ paths cross.

The site aims to help push sales of Windows Vista, and increase downloads of the Windows Live suite of applications, by targeting digital enthusiasts and young families.

An insightful look at what’s now available, Microsoft helps promote the benefits of digitally-enriched living, while demonstrating the capabilities of one of their newest software platforms.

Hello, I found this post while looking for help with Microsoft Silverlight. I’ve recently changed browsers from Google Chrome to Microsoft IE 6. Now I seem to have a problem with loading sites that use Microsoft Silverlight. Everytime I browse page that needs Microsoft Silverlight, my computer doesn’t load and I get a “npctrl.dll” error. I can’t seem to find out how to fix it. Any help getting Microsoft Silverlight to function is very appreciated! Thanks

    Hi Cory!

We’re not usually in the habit of troubleshooting, but seeing as you asked so nicely…

The problem is probably due to the fact you’re using an older version of Internet Explorer. Try upgrading to the latest version, IE8. You can download it here: microsoft.com/uk/IE8

    Hope that helps. Happy surfing!
